AutoPlay is a Windows feature that is part of AutoRun. It prompts the user to play music and videos or view images.

The Windows AutoPlay feature is enabled by default on most versions of Windows, allowing programmes to run from an external device as soon as it is connected to a computer.

Since malware can exploit the AutoPlay feature, spreading its unfortunate payload from your external device to your PC, it is best to disable this feature.

Disabling AutoPlay in Windows

Open Settings app and click devices, then select AutoPlay from the left-hand sidebar. Move the Use AutoPlay button for all media and devices to the Off position.
